About

I catalogue planning applications that threaten historic buildings or streets in The North of England. If an application for demolition of a building with any remote historical interest is submitted, I will post it here.

I care a great deal about historic buildings and the landscape that they are integral to the region

The dominance of the car, the industrialised mass production of buildings and the globalisation of style mean that the type of architecture and urbanism we once had will never be replaced.

I am not against development or the supply of much needed housing, but demolition is almost always the easy option rather than the best option. Restoring our old building stock means saving carbon emissions and saving our cultural heritage.

    Hello,
    Hello,
I am working with the University of Huddersfield and Kirklees Local TV to produce a short video provisionally entitled Huddersfield’s NHS: the Caribbean Connection in readiness for Black History Month (Oct. 2020).
As health workers recruited from overseas including people from the Caribbean worked at St Lukes Hospital during the 1960s-mid 80s, it would be excellent to include a few edited still images of how the hospital used to look. Would it be possible to access selected images from your website for use in this educational film made for a private screening? Would any charges be involved please? I wish to avoid any copyright problems.
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hello,

I am hoping you can help. I’m looking for information on a former ‘chapel’ which has now been demolished on Grange Road (formerly known as Back Lane), West Cowick, Goole. There is evidence of foundations, it is overgrown, has a very small footprint. Residents say it was a chapel, but this may just be a general term used, not certain it was actually a methodist establishment. Uncertain when it was demolished but definitely prior to 2010 but could be decades before this. I can’t find any old postcards or photos of it. Would love to know more about it if you could possibly point me in the right direction.

    Many thanks, Lucy.
