The Victoria Inn, Thorne

Application to demolish a pub in Thorne, South Yorkshire:

The site plan for this proposed housing development uses the footprint of this pub as a small car park and for a single story ‘community wine bar’. How odd. There is an actual historic pub already there. If its a wine bar you want, simply stock some wine.

I presume the demolition is needed to allow for the residential access road. But move it slightly further north and the pub can stay. There really is no need to lose this building.

Pubs in Thorne have struggled in recent years, and its a town I have always had my eye on, hoping for it to regenerated into the beautiful market town is can be. Yet the proposed developed includes a bar, so clearly in this part of town (next to a train station I would add) there is a demand for drinking.

This should be a no-brainer for Doncaster Council planners, and with a bit of negotiation they will manage to hang on to this beautiful pub.
